State of New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development
Notice of Broadband Action Plan Forum Friday, February 29 at 9:00 AM – Portsmouth (NHCTC – Pease International Tradeport)
The State of New Hampshire, Department of Resources and Economic Development (DRED), Division of Economic Development (DED) has initiated a project to develop a Broadband Action Plan for the State of NH to identify opportunities for expanded access to broadband connectivity in all regions of the State. DRED has contracted with the firm of Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker (BDMP) to provide project management and facilitation services for the development of the statewide Broadband Action Plan.
The meeting will consist of two parts:
A presentation by UNH on how can the State leverage existing and potential initiatives to build the communications infrastructure that will support a technology based economy for the 21st century.
Second, the meeting will have a facilitated workshop where individuals can provide their comments, knowledge and feedback based on a three-part approach:
1.What is Broadband? Both from a technical perspective and a public policy approach. Does NH have to set a baseline standard for measuring success/progress? Is broadband a luxury or a public good, or somewhere in between?
2.Current Initiatives? What is going on in the region? The State? How can this effort “connect the dots.”
3.Broadband Action Plan Ideas: What needs to be included in the action plan? What is critical?
“These forums are of vital importance in determining where our opportunities, needs, challenges and obstacles lie in terms of telecommunications infrastructure,” said New Hampshire Division of Economic Director Michael Vlacich. “The information that we glean from these sessions will form the basis for an action plan that will serve as a blueprint for New Hampshire’s broadband growth.”
RSVP to ggriffith@portsmouthchamber.org by Thursday, February 28th.
